Set Up Your EMail Parrot List

EMail Parrot is a routing layer that sits between your group and the outside world. How it behaves depends on how you configure it. This guide helps you find the right configuration for what you want to accomplish, then walks you through setting it up.

Not sure how the routing works? How EMail Parrot routes email explains the mechanics before you start.

Choose Your Configuration

Private Group

Closed list. All members have equal access including direct messaging.

Best for families, neighborhoods, community organizations, volunteer groups, support groups, and activist networks. Everyone on the list can reach everyone else. No one outside the list can contact the group. Real email addresses are never exposed - members see pseudonyms only.

Moderated Community

Closed list. Full members and monitored participants have different permissions.

Best for businesses running focus groups, customer advisory panels, or moderated discussion communities. A core group of trusted members has full access. External participants can send and receive through the list but cannot initiate direct messages and their messages are held for admin review before delivery.

Family Protection

Open list (VPE enabled). Designed for guardian oversight of dependent members.

Best for nuclear families protecting a child or elderly parent. The list is open so outside parties - schools, doctors, services - can reach the family without getting anyone’s personal address. Care sublists let a parent or caregiver automatically receive copies of communications to a dependent member. Full screening on all inbound email.

Business Email

Open list (VPE enabled). Members correspond with outside parties under a branded address.

Best for small businesses and contractor teams using personal or freelancer email addresses behind a company domain. Members send and receive as the business without exposing personal addresses. When someone leaves the team, their access is revoked instantly. Outside parties retain no walk-away contact information.

Personal Privacy Shield

Open list (VPE enabled). One alias per outside contact, all protections on.

Best for individuals who want to control who can reach them, prevent address correlation across services, and ensure their real inbox receives nothing except relayed and screened mail. Each outside party - each service, each person, each business - gets a unique alias sublist. A compromised alias is rotated without touching the real address or any other alias.
