Virtual Private Email (VPE)
EMail Parrot™ has been providing secure and private email to closed groups that don’t desire outsiders to communicate with the group. This is private and safe from unwanted content.
Now with Open Email Lists with VPE technology the same privacy and security can be achieved while communicating with any email address. List members’ names and email addresses remain private and outside communication is through the list or sublist addresses. All the same email protections are applied cutting SPAM, viruses, and trackers to the ground.
Understanding Open Lists and VPE
Think of VPE like this:
Open Email List = Network Connection
- You can reach external destinations
- You have connectivity beyond your immediate group
- Communication is possible with the outside world
VPE = VPN (Virtual Private Network)
- Your traffic is protected and encrypted
- Your real identity is hidden from external parties
- You get anonymity and security layer
Together: Open Email List + VPE Just like you might have an internet connection with a VPN enabled, an open email list uses VPE technology to maintain privacy protection while allowing external communication. You get the reach of an open list with the protection of VPE.
Closed Email List = Local Network (LAN)
- Communication only within the group
- No external connectivity
- Maximum simplicity and isolation
Secure Your Inbox Without Changing a Thing
Email’s a mess - spam clogs your inbox, trackers spy you, and viruses lurk in attachments. EMail Parrot™’s Virtual Private Email (VPE) fixes that, turning your existing email into a fortress without forcing you to switch providers. Whether you’re a family dodging junk mail, a small biz owner tired of client email chaos, or a team that needs professional email without the overhead, this is secure email, simplified.
Email providers like Gmail try to filter spam and trackers, but they’re conflicted. Their revenue is based on ads and ads need your data for targeting, so privacy takes a hit. Others, like ProtonMail, lock you into their ecosystem. 70% of email is spam (Spamhaus, 2024), 20% of breaches start with email (Verizon, 2024), and trackers in “promo” messages follow you everywhere. You need a firewall that gives you a safe email environment. One that works with your email, not against it. That’s where EMail Parrot™’s VPE comes in - privacy and security, no app required.
Who Needs VPE?
For Businesses: Email Under Your Brand Without the Overhead
Need to give your VA email access? Managing contractor communications? Running a small team that needs professional email? Traditional solutions all have serious drawbacks:
- Share credentials – Security nightmare when they leave
- Buy email seats – $72-144/year per person, plus IT overhead
- Shared Gmail – No accountability, messy threading, unprofessional
- Simple forwarding – They reply from personal emails
VPE solves this. Your team sends and receives emails under your brand while their personal addresses stay completely hidden. Add or remove team members instantly. No provisioning, no IT department, no per-user fees.
$10/month for unlimited users vs. $72-144/year per email seat.
For Personal Privacy: Unlimited Email Aliases That Actually Protect You
Tired of giving your real email to every store, website, and service? VPE lets you create unlimited aliases that route to your real email. When an alias gets spammed, delete it—your real email stays protected.
Store asks for your email at checkout? Give them +storename+mylist@yourdomain.com. Create the alias later in 30 seconds. If they spam you or sell your address, delete the alias. They can’t reach your real email. You stay in control.
Unlike simple email forwarding: VPE filters every message through virus scanning, tracker removal, and spam protection before it reaches you. It’s not just an alias—it’s a security layer.
For Families & Groups: Safe Communication for Everyone
Coordinate with neighbors, manage a PTA, organize volunteers? VPE keeps everyone’s personal email private while enabling group communication. Members email each other anonymously, and the group can email external contacts (vendors, venues, speakers) without exposing anyone’s personal information.
Whole families can share VPE protection. One list, many members, unlimited sublists for different purposes. Everyone’s real email stays hidden.
How VPE Works
EMail Parrot™’s VPE creates a secure email layer between you and the outside world:
For Internal Communication: Your team or group uses closed groups—everyone communicates anonymously via pseudonyms, protecting all members’ personal emails.
For External Communication: You email external addresses using a special pattern that routes through your VPE infrastructure:
+external.email=at=domain.com+yourlist@yourdomain.com
External recipients see emails from your list address. They never see your real email. Replies automatically route back to the right list or sublist. All emails pass through EMail Parrot™’s security filters: virus scanning, tracker removal, dangerous link detection, and spam filtering.
Example - Business Use: Your VA needs to email a vendor at vendor@example.com. They send to:
+vendor=at=example.com+support@yourbusiness.com
The vendor sees an email from support@yourbusiness.com and replies to that address. Your VA receives the reply—no credential sharing, no personal email exposure.
Example - Personal Use: A store asks for your email. You give them:
+megastore+shopping@yourdomain.com
Later, create a “megastore” alias routing to your real email. If they spam you, delete the alias. Your real email is never exposed.

Business Use Cases: Professional Email Without the Overhead
Virtual Assistant Email Delegation
The Problem: Giving a VA email access means sharing passwords (unsafe) or buying them a Google Workspace account (expensive).
The VPE Solution: Create sublists for different functions—vendors, scheduling, customer-service. Your VA gets access to specific sublists, never sees your real email, and can be removed instantly. You maintain oversight without micromanaging.
Cost Comparison:
- Google Workspace for one VA: $72-144/year
- EMail Parrot with unlimited sublists: $120/year total
Freelancer Collectives & Small Teams
The Problem: Three freelancers want to present as “ABC Design Studio” but can’t justify $30-50/month for business email. They end up using personal emails or sharing one Gmail account.
The VPE Solution: For $10/month total, they get hello@abcdesign.com that reaches all three people. Each can respond, all see the conversation, clients see one professional brand. When someone leaves or joins, it’s a 30-second change.
Contractors & Seasonal Workers
The Problem: Hiring 20 seasonal workers for 4 months. Do you provision 20 email accounts, train everyone, then deprovision? Or let them use personal emails with customers?
The VPE Solution: Add seasonal workers to your team list. They email customers through support@yourbusiness.com without individual company accounts. When the season ends, remove them—done. No IT tickets, no security worries.
Real Savings: A tax prep firm saved $2,880/year switching from Google Workspace for seasonal email to EMail Parrot VPE.
Personal Privacy Use Cases: Your Email, Your Control
The On-Demand Identity
Store asks for your email at checkout? Give them +storename+shopping@yourdomain.com. Later, create the “storename” sublist routing to your real email. If they spam you, delete the sublist. Your real email stays protected.
The Power: Unlimited aliases, instant creation, instant deletion. You decide who can reach you. Unlike disposable email services, your aliases work with your real domain and include full security scanning.
The Category Organizer
Create different aliases for different life categories:
+bills+personal@yourdomain.com– All utility and service bills+shopping+personal@yourdomain.com– Retail and e-commerce+travel+personal@yourdomain.com– Airlines, hotels, car rentals+medical+personal@yourdomain.com– Healthcare providers+finance+personal@yourdomain.com– Banks and investments
Each alias routes to your real email, but you can track where leaks happen. If the “shopping” alias starts getting spam, you know which vendor leaked or sold your info. Delete it and create a new one.
The Professional Boundary
You’re a therapist, consultant, or service provider who needs to email clients professionally without giving them your personal email. Create a practice sublist. Email clients through:
+clientname+practice@drsmiththerapy.com
Clients see emails from your practice, you maintain professional boundaries, and when a client relationship ends, their thread stays separate from your personal email.
Family & Household Protection
Set up one VPE list for your family. Create sublists for:
- Shared services – Netflix, utilities, Amazon - password resets go to the family, anyone can handle them
- School – Each child has a sublist for their school communications
- Activities – Soccer team, music lessons, each with its own sublist
- Elderly parents – Monitor their email for scams without accessing their personal account
One real email address per person, but unlimited protected aliases for every context. When Grandma accidentally clicks a phishing link, it hits VPE’s security filters first.
Complete Privacy & Security Protection
VPE isn’t just address masking—it’s a complete security layer that processes every email:
- Virus Scanning – ClamAV + AWS SES multi-layer protection catches malware before it reaches you
- Spoofing Detection – SPF/DKIM validation blocks impersonation and phishing attempts
- Tracker Removal – Tracking pixels and external content stripped from emails
- Dangerous Link Detection – Suspicious URLs flagged or blocked
- Malicious Attachment Removal – .EXE, .BAT, and risky file types removed automatically
- Size Quarantine – Oversized emails held for review
- Member-Only Access – Only your list members can use external addressing
The Fortress Effect: Every email—whether business or personal—passes through these security layers before reaching your inbox. Unlike simple forwarding or Gmail’s filtering (which needs to show you ads), VPE’s only job is protecting you.
Flexible Aliases & Sublists: Unlimited Personas
By configuring EMail Parrot™ with sublists, each one becomes its own address available to the outside world. A single real email address can be behind many sublists, creating a set of addresses for different purposes.
For Business:
support@yourdomain.com– Customer service teamsales@yourdomain.com– Sales teamvendors@yourdomain.com– Procurement teamadmin@yourdomain.com– Administrative tasks
For Personal:
shopping@yourdomain.com– Retail and online storestravel@yourdomain.com– Airlines and hotelsbills@yourdomain.com– Utilities and servicessocial@yourdomain.com– Social media and forums
Each sublist can have different members (for business) or just you (for personal). Change a sublist name to change the email address. Old emails get quarantined and you can review them to see who needs the updated address.
Rotation & Privacy: If a sublist gets too much unwanted email, change its name. The old address stops working, spam stops flowing, and you’re back in control. This is true disposable email with professional addresses.
Real-World Scenarios
The Temporary Team
Organizing a community event with 10 volunteers coordinating with vendors. Create an event-volunteers group. They all email vendors through the group address, coordinate internally, but don’t share personal emails. When the event ends, archive the group. Vendors can’t reach volunteers after the event without permission.
The Shared Service Account
Your family shares Netflix, utilities, and other household accounts. Use a shared group email for all password resets and account communications. Everyone gets the emails, anyone can handle them. No single person “owns” shared accounts. When adult children move out, they stay on the household list but can’t take the contact info with them.
The Leak Detector
You suspect one of your online accounts leaked your email. Create unique aliases for each service: +amazon+shopping, +target+shopping, +walmart+shopping. When spam starts flowing to one specific alias, you know exactly who leaked or sold your address. Delete that alias, contact the company, move on.
The Anti-Doxxing Shield
You’re active online but value your privacy. Create separate identities for different communities: +forums+public, +gaming+public, +local+public. Each community gets its own alias. If one community turns toxic or you get doxxed in one space, delete that alias. Your other online identities remain unaffected. Your real email stays completely hidden.
Three Tiers of Email Privacy
EMail Parrot™ supports different privacy levels for different contexts:
| Tier | Use For | How It Works | Privacy Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | Family, Doctor, Bank | Your real email | People who know your personal info |
| Closed Groups | PTA, Teams, Neighbors | EMail Parrot closed list | Anonymous within group, no external communication |
| Open Groups (VPE) | Everyone Else | EMail Parrot with external addressing | Full VPE protection for internal AND external email |
Start with closed groups for internal team communication, then enable VPE when you need external email capability. Or use VPE from day one for complete privacy protection.
Security Architecture: Limited Blast Radius
Here’s a security benefit most people don’t think about: When someone’s Gmail gets hacked, the attacker gets their entire contact list—years of real email addresses to phish.
When an EMail Parrot member’s personal email gets compromised, the attacker sees messages from addresses like ~username@yourdomain.com—these addresses don’t work outside the group. The attacker can’t extract other members’ real addresses, can’t pivot to other team members, and can’t use the relationship to launch broader phishing attacks.
For Personal Use: If your +shopping+personal alias gets exposed in a data breach, attackers can’t reach your other aliases. Each alias is isolated. Your real email address never appears in any breach database.
Your contact network isn’t just hidden—it’s architecturally protected.
Security You Can Trust
Member-Only External Addressing: Only list members can use VPE addressing to email external contacts. External addresses cannot send TO virtualized addresses—they can only reply to emails they’ve received. This prevents spam and abuse.
Access Control: When using sublist external addressing (e.g., +client=at=company.com+support.sales@yourdomain.com), only members of that specific sublist can send. This ensures proper role-based access control for businesses.
US-Based Infrastructure: Hosted on AWS with minimal data collection. Emails deleted after 30 days by default. We respond only to official legal requests and publish annual transparency reports. Full GDPR/CCPA compliance. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
No Conflicts of Interest: Unlike Gmail, we don’t show ads. We don’t sell data. We don’t track you. Our only revenue is your subscription. Your privacy is our product, not our liability.
